My Journey
‘A life of pressure
and stress’
‘A life of pressure and stress’
Born in Rochdale in 1971 in a stong working class family, childhood was good. I faired okay at school and sports, had girlfriends, got up to no good, laughed, cried, got heartbroken etc, all natural parts of growing up.
The 90’s brought Acid House and partying, ecstacy, acid, warehouse parties, great times, however dark times loomed and soon party drugs were replaced with the harder addictive drugs, crime, homelessness, begging and the darkest period of my life.
After completing 12 months of drug rehabilitation in 1997, and being 26 I was ready to start living a real life, a good life. I landed my first job in recruitment and quickly progressed to sales, area manager and office manager. Fastforward to 2008 and after 10 years of running businesses for others I decided to start my own Recruitment Business.
Myself and business partner went for it and from a small start up business we grew to a £10million turnover business employing 20 direct staff and over 550 temporary workers a week, which as you can imagine came with high levels of pressure, stress and constant accountability. Sadly after 15 years in business and nearly 30 in recruitment the constant pressure of pushing, targets and worry culminated in stress, anxiety and bouts of depression, it was time to get out.
Beekeeping was always something that interested me and through a good friend I was fortunate enough to meet my mentor and now close friend Ruth Robinson, who with 15 years bee keeping experience and the patience of a saint has guided me through my first seasons as a beekeeper.
